UK Byte Class Association

In preparation for the Nationals the following weekend we have arranged for a training day on 17 August at Calshot SC. I am really grateful to Rachel Hughes of the home club for her ideas and organisation of this. This is the first sea-based training we have arranged, and are fortunate that our expert Kev Moore (fresh from training Youth Olympics qualifiers at Lake Garda!) is available to run it. Very helpfully the club is also offering boat storage until the Nationals, and entry into club races on the evenings of 18 & 19 August. This opportunity to train and practice at the venue adjoining the Nationals could be a big advantage for participants.

There are tidal constraints meaning we won’t get afloat until the afternoon. This should give time for a sea breeze to develop (if sufficient wind is not present already). The current plans for 17 August are as follows:

10.00 am - arrive at Calshot SC

Remainder of morning - shore based theory

Lunch - best to bring sandwiches

After lunch - rig boats and tuning tips, then launch

Training session afloat with Kev organising from the rib

16.00 pm - join in club pursuit race, where Bytes will start together

De-brief after race.

The cost of the training is just £10, and this includes entry into the club pursuit race, boat storage (if required) until the Nationals on 23 August, and entry into the club handicap series racing on 18 & 19 August at 18.30 pm. Car parking is available locally for about £4 per day.
