UK Byte Class Association

Please find below a copy of the note to members of Weston SC regarding Bart's Bash, which coincides with the 2nd day of our forthcoming open there. This is a very worthwhile cause, so I encourage entrants to make the contribution accordingly.

BART’S BASH

Many members will already be aware of the racing event planned for sailors worldwide on the 21st September, in memory of Bart Simpson who tragically lost his life during the 34th America’s Cup in San Francisco. Weston Sailing Club will be supporting the event, allowing WSC members to compete in what will hopefully be included in the Guinness Book of Records as the “world’s biggest sailing race” (as measured by participation).

The 21st September date coincides with our scheduled Open Meeting for Contenders & Bytes and those entrants will also be able to participate. Any member / Open Meeting visitor wishing to be included in Bart’s Bash will need to visit the BB website, register as a competitor at WSC and pay a minimum BB entry fee of £5 (donated to the BB charity).

Their results will subsequently be extracted from the Open and Club results by your SC. Boats will all share a common course for this race, which will conform to the requirements of the BB NOR and SI (available on the BB website) and your Sailing Committee will apply the necessary mathematics to compute the “handicap adjusted average speed per boat”, this being the basis of the BB race. It is likely that we will start everyone from the Committee boat for the Open meeting, giving members a slightly different racing experience!

We hope you will join in and support this worthwhile charity.
